Chapter 3 Part 2

THE NEXT DAY
“Ugh, why we need so many books I will never know,” Mia complained as they hauled books off the shelves and onto their table. “Why can’t you just do a spell to do this for us?”
“Because you know how I don’t like to use magic. And besides, you could use the exercise.” Kassie said as she searched the shelves. They’ve been at this all afternoon, and so far all they have to show for it is dust. How many old books do they have here anyway?
“Well I don’t know about you but…hey what’s this?” Mia pulled a book off one of the shelves and blew the dust off. “I think I’ve found something” Mia said holding up the book for Kassie to see. It was a raggedy book, with its pages so loose that it looked like it would fall right out of the book. Mia carefully carried the book over to the table and set it down.
“Wow, this is one old book,” Kassie stated as she opening the book, releasing more dust into the air. “This book dates back almost two-hundred years ago,” Kassie pointed at the date that the book was published, “are you sure that this is what we’re looking for?”
“I’m sure. Now come on, we have to check this book out.” Mia picked the book back up and headed over to the check-out desk.
“We still have to put these books back,” Kassie motioned to the books. Mia turned around and smiled at her.

Chapter 3 Part 1

Mrs. Vixen walked down the hall with the stone box in her hands. She turned the corner and entered the Head Mistress’s office. The room was dimly lit, with a dark brown desk, some chairs and a fireplace. Everything looked normal except for the witch’s glass that shined brightly, with its round smooth surface. “I’ve taken her power from her, just as you’ve ordered.” Mrs. Vixen said, placing the box on the desk and turning to face Mrs. Circe. Mrs. Circe turned away from the witch’s glass and looked at Mrs. Vixen.
“Excellent, in three days time Mia’s full potential will be revealed to her. And she will have no choice but to give in to her magic by then.” With this Mrs. Circe gave out a hideous shriek that was supposed to be considered laughter.

THAT NIGHT
“Come on, Kassie. Do you want to help me or not?” Mia said, motioning to the door. All she wanted Kassie to do was to make copies of themselves so it would seem that they were still in bed  and not out doing what Mrs. Vixen called ‘playing adventure.’ I don’t think I’m asking too much of her, its basic magic.
“Okay, okay, I’ll do it.” Kassie turned to the mirror while picking up some chalk from the dresser. She drew a strange drawing -that looked something like an eye with a squiggly line through it- and said a few strange words to herself. She erased the drawing with her sleeve and touched the mirror. She pulled her hand away and took a few steps back. Her reflection hadn’t moved. Her reflection starting blinking as if it had woken up from a deep sleep and stepped out of the mirror.
“I don’t care how many times you do that spell but it will always freak me out,” Mia said looking at the two Kassies that were now in the room.
“Reflection, go to bed and don’t wake up until we return,” Kassie ordered the reflection. Mia never thought it was fair to call that thing a “reflection.” But every time Mia mentioned it, Kassie would tell her about how making a reflection was no different than copying a picture.
“Now its your turn,” Kassie said, putting the same drawing on the mirror. Except after Kassie said the magic words, Mia touched the mirror instead of Kassie. Mia’s reflection did not blink like Kassie’s did; it just walked out of the mirror and put its hand on its hip. Since Mia always had more attitude then Kassie did, so did her reflection.
“Hey, my other self,” Mia said as the reflection faced her. “You get to go take a nap until we come back, got it?”
“Got it,” it said as it walked to Mia’s bed and got in. “And I’m guessing I can’t come out of the bed until you come back either, right?”
“Right,” Mia answered as she followed Kassie out of the room and into the dark hallway. The hallways were never monitored since the kids here didn’t dare break the rules. Mia always said it was because they were all just of a bunch of ignorant, stuck-up snobs. They raced each other to the library and down the shelves until they found what they were looking for. The Peacekeeper.
“Now it’s your turn to put in some work,” Kassie said as Mia pulled out the amulet and put it in the hole. The tunnel opened up to greet them and they began their decent downward. Mia found a torch nearby -she thought it was weird to find a torch down there too- and carried it down the stairs. Soon they came to the end of the stairs and found nothing except a wall.
“Oh, this is great. We skipped class so we could go find this stupid tunnel.” Kassie yelled, clearly mad about having to do magic for nothing. “Then, we snuck out of our dorms, come down a tunnel that we were told not to go down. And now we find out that we did all of that for-.”
“Will you just shut up for two seconds?! There’s something on the wall.” Mia said, holding her torch up higher so she could see more. The wall was filled with some sort of strange writing.
“Whoa,” Kassie said, just now noticing the writing. “What do you think it says?”
“What makes you think I know?” Mia gave Kassie a your-an-idiot look. “You’re the one that took Latin, does any of this look familiar?”
“If it was Latin then I wouldn’t have asked you what it meant.” Kassie returned the look, “It must be some other really old language. And we aren’t going to get very far if we can’t read this so we better just head back up and come back tomorrow.” Kassie headed to the stairs and turned around to wait for Mia.
“Oh, no. Don’t tell me we have to do research.” Mia looked as if she was about to fall asleep as she walked up to Kassie.
“I thought you liked to read,” Kassie said as they started up the stairs together.
“I like to read for fun, not for some boring research,” Mia said as she put the torch back where she found it. Once they got out Kassie took the amulet out and handed it to Mia, who put it back in her back pocket. Mia sighed “but it looks like I have no choice.”

Chapter 2 Part 3

THE NEXT DAY

“Come on Kassie, I’ve got to show you this,” Mia said, leading Kassie down the rows of books.
“Look, if you’re just going to show me some book that you found then I don’t really care.” Kassie said, clearly bored out of her mind.
“It’s not a book. Here it is.” Mia said as she walked up to the statue. “What do you think it is.”
“Well, it looks like a statue. Wait…what’s this.”Kassie said, motioning towards the foot of the statue where the circle was. “Looks like something is supposed to go there.”
“Yeah, but what?” Mia said, looking at Kassie.
“Maybe,” Kassie said, pulling out Mia’s amulet.
“Where did you get my amulet?” Mia said snatching the amulet from Kassie’s hands. “I’ve been looking for that. I wasn’t supposed to take that off.”
“I found it on your bed and decided to do some research on it. It looks very old.” Kassie looked over at the statue again. “Try putting it in that spot right there.” Mia put the amulet in the little circle. Suddenly, the statue started to shake and it split in half. A tunnel was now where the statue should have been.
“Wow” Mia said, taking a few steps inside the tunnel.
“Wait!” Kassie yelled, grabbing a hold o Mia’s arm. “We don’t know what’s down there. Why don’t we go and tell somebody and let them handle it.”
“Well, I’m going down there. And whether or not you go with me is your choice, not mine. But I want to go and see what’s at the bottom of this tunnel.”
“Too bad you won’t be able to see it.” Mrs. Vixen said, walking towards them. “What do you think you’re doing?” Mrs. Vixen was wearing her usual outfit; a white blouse, a black knee-length skirt, and black mary janes.
“Um…we found this tunnel and we were about to go see where it leads,” Mia explained. It we’re going to get in trouble then we might as well do it truthfully.
“I think not, you should have come directly to a teacher as soon as you found this tunnel. Now how do you close this tunnel up?” Mia reached over and picked up the amulet. The tunnel immediately closed up leaving The Peacekeeper exactly the way it was left. Mrs. Vixen just gaped at where the tunnel once was. “How did you do that?”
“I just took my amulet out of the hole and the tunnel went away,” Mia held up her amulet so she could see it. Mrs. Vixen just kept staring at it as if it was God itself.
“Ms. Kassandra, you may return to your classes. Ms. Scarlett, I would like to have a word with you.” Kassie practically ran down the aisles towards the door. Once she was gone completely Mrs. Vixen turned to Mia and said, “Now can I see that amulet of yours.” Mia handed her the amulet the amulet and she observed it very closely. Sooner or later that thing is going to jump out of her hands and run away. “This is a very unique trinket you have here,” Mia heard her mumble a few words and the amulet started to float from her hands towards Mia. “Now as I’ve heard, you’ve got a pretty little birthmark just like that on your neck, am I right?” Mia nodded, “May I see it?” Mia didn’t see any harm in her seeing it, people always asked about her weird birthmark and besides she was a teacher. So Mia pulled her shirt down to reveal her neck as Mrs. Vixen walked around her to get a good view of her neck. “Amazing, there is nothing like this that I’ve ever heard of before,” Mia Pulled the neck of her shirt back up and turned to face Mrs. Vixen.
“Can I go back to class now?” Mia tried her best not to look bored out her mind but didn’t know if she was succeeding or not.
“Of course, but I think that some sort of punishment is due for skipping out on class in the first place. I have no choice but to suspend your powers for three days.”
“What?! But Kassie is going unpunished?! That is so unfair!” Mia could not believe this, all she did was cut class and they never punished her this way.
“Okay. One, I don’t have to be fair. Two, you dragged her out her classes so you could go play adventure. And three, I’m sorry but you have to be punished some way. And since every other punishment we’ve given you has failed, I see no other option. Now stand over there and don’t even think about trying to run away.” Mia moped over to where Mrs. Vixen was pointing while she heard her mumble a few words that were probably a removal magic spell. Mia turned and faced Mrs. Vixen. Suddenly the room filled with light and a dark ray shot out of Mrs. Vixen’s outstretched hands and went straight to Mia’s heart. For a moment Mia couldn’t breathe and this made her panic, but then the black ray flew out of her and was carrying a strange orb that changed colors. Mrs. Vixen pulled out a little stone box and put the orb in the box and locked it with her magic. “Now you may go Ms. Scarlett,” Mrs. Vixen said as she started walking the other way.
Mia left the library and started heading down the hallway when she spotted Kassie and ran up to her. Kassie saw her and ran up to meet her, “OMG, what happened?”
“Mrs. Butthead took my magic for three days for doing what she says as ‘taking Ms. Kassandra out of class so I could go play adventure’. God, I can’t believe this. How am I going to get to go see what that tunnel leads to if I can’t use my magic?”
“What? I hope you don’t mean that you’re going back there do you? You already got your magic taken. Do you want to be expelled too?” Kassie gave Mia a true look of desperation.
“Oh, I am so going back there. They’re hiding something and I’m going to find out what it is whether you help me or not.” Mia turned around as Kassie grabbed her by the arm.
“Wait a minute, who said I wasn’t going to help you? I just don’t want to lose my best friend because she decided to go do something stupid after she just got in trouble.” Kassie gave Mia one of her ever so famous weak smiles.
“Great because I’m going to need all of the help I can get.” Mia in intertwined her arm with Kassie’s and together they walked down the hallway.

Chapter 2 Part 2

Back at the bedroom, Kassie was lying down on her bed and staring at the ceiling. She already had everything put away and wondering what wondering what she should do next. Then she remembered how Mia never put her clothes away. Why don’t I do that for her? she thought. She walked over to Mia’s suitcase and started pulling on the zipper when she noticed something weird on Mia’s bed. What would Mia be doing with something like this? she thought as she picked up a strange looking amulet. The amulet had a star on the amulet that looked exactly like the one on Mia’s neck. I better figure out what this is she thought as she put the amulet in her back pocket and returned to putting away Mia’s things.
……….
Mia was looking through the new books. Well, she wasn’t really looking; she used a spell to search the shelves to find the books for her. This was one of her favorite spells. She had books flying out to greet her as she walked around the library.
“Hmm…hate it…maybe…ooh…I’m definitely going to have to read that one.” Books went flying on and off the shelves as she decided what she was going to read for the rest of the year. She was just about to end the spell when she noticed some of the books weren’t coming towards her like the others. She followed the books down the many rows of shelves. Soon she realized that she didn’t recognize this part of the library. Then she noticed that the books she was supposed to be following were nowhere to be seen. She turned a corner and came face to face with a stone state.
Now there were many statues in the school, but she had never seen this one before. And by the looks of it, it had been here for a long time. The statue was of a woman who was holding two little balls of light; one light and one dark. At the foot of the statue was a little circle indented into the statue. And what was even weirder was that Mia had a strange feeling that she had seen this statue before.
“Ow!” Mia turned around to see a book floating near her head. She had forgotten that if the spell isn’t ended soon then they start to attack the person who said the spell. She called off the spell and all of the books went flying towards the shelves.
“There you are, I was starting to worry we would have to send out a search party for you.” Mia looked around and saw Mrs. Circe coming toward her with her arms spread out. What the heck, Mia thought to herself, does she expect me to run into her arms or something? “Ah I see you found The Peacekeeper. It is said that this statue holds many secrets. But, who knows, it may lead to something very powerful. Oh, I am late for a meeting, and you are late for class so hurry off.” What is she talking about? Something very powerful? What the heck?
